I thought I'd share a new Polar Opposites book review this week. It's been so oppressively hot and humid, I love spending time back in the Polar archives for these. The book comes with a cute penguin bookmark. Who doesn't love penguins? If you order before August 10th, you'll get FREE SHIPPING. There is a limited supply available, so be sure to grab your copy soon. Stay cool!
Who's up for a road trip? A famous road trip. We followed (mostly) Route 66 from outside of Chicago to Williams, AZ. It was fun to stop at all the quirky and kitchy places along the way. I did a series of images in black and white. Using black and white makes these places feel like they are from the past, which they are. Enjoy the trip through my gallery as I continue to add photos from Route 66.
I can't believe it's July already. Hopefully, wherever you are, it's much cooler and less humid than here in the Midwest. This weather has turned me into more of a hermit than I already am. The good thing about that is it forces me to spend more time going through my images. I've spent some time updating room mock-ups and adding new work to my shop. If you love Chicago, check out my Chicago gallery: https://laurinovakphotography.latchet.com/shop/chicago Stay cool!
I've been a bit distracted this past week with the critters in our backyard. It's good to take a nature break and get away from sitting at my desk, staring at my screen all day. Not much new to talk about at the moment. Still working on updating my website and figuring out what images to put in my shop. I am contemplating adding smaller items like notebooks and notecards. Would that be of interest? These are good projects and an excuse to stay in the air conditioning! Too hot for me outside. Don't forget about my inventory sale! Question? Please ask.
It's your last chance to save $10 on shipping of my book, Polar Opposites. Here are a few reviews: "This brilliant book called Polar Opposites is such a beautiful, unique compilation of photographs of the North and South Polar regions." "My copy arrived this morning and I was blown away. The concept and production are exemplary." "The images are stunning, and her words leave you wanting to visit." "What makes this book special is how thoughtfully Novak pairs images for the feeling they evoke." More reviews: https://laurinovak.com/book-reviews/

Also, if you want something different than a standard print, I can offer acrylic and metal prints and other options. Let me know what you're looking for.
Happy June! I'm celebrating my birthday next week and tried to offer my Inspirations & Quotes to Inspire e-book for free this month. Unfortunately, I found out it's impossible to do so through my shop. So, if you'd like your free copy, contact me at lauri@laurinovak.com, and I will send you your copy. I've been adding new images for prints to the shop. You'll find three previously unpublished photos from the Antarctic Peninsula and one vibrant floral from Portugal. Check them out.

Anytime I visit the Rookery Building, I do my best to create new perspective images of the Oriel Staircase. It's an icon. It's not always easy, especially when you're on a tour with the #FLWTrust, which I recommend. Here's a perspective I had never photographed before. I love the framing of it and how looking down into the light court shows the levels and gives the image depth. If you are interested in a print, stay tuned, they'll be in my shop soon. Also available for licensing.
Chap books. I've been experimenting with different ways to get my photography out in the world. Last year, I was inspired to create handmade photo chapbooks. You generally see chapbooks for poetry and short stories. I figured, why not make one with images? There are three chapbooks in my shop. Everyday Shadows, Issues 1 & 2 and Clouds, Issue 1. These are printed on watercolor paper and hand-bound with binding thread. Free shipping for Chapbooks
I attended one of my favorite art festival events at my old high school on Sunday. It’s all about sharing different types of art with the kids. It’s so fun to see the kids taking part in this. Best part of the day? A 10ish-year-old boy kept coming back to look at this print. He loves trains. He brought his grandma over and ended up taking it home. He was so proud to walk around with that print. That’s what it’s all about. Sharing art and teaching. Reminder: Free shipping on the Polar Opposites book until June 30th! I'm starting this Lyric adventure by offering my Limited Edition prints. A few years ago, I had several prints in a gallery in Lincoln Park. Sadly, the gallery closed and I have not promoted these Limited Edition prints. It's a project I never quite finished. I just added this image: The iconic Oriel Staircase in the Rookery Building in Chicago. If you are ever in Chicago, I highly recommend the tour here. This limited edition print is available as a 12"x18" and 30"x20" print. There are 23 - 12"x18" prints and 9 - 30"x20" prints available.
Welcome to the next experiment, which is selling my fine art photography. While I sell, license and lease my work commercially, I've never marketed my work very diligently to the general public. Several years ago, I sold at art fairs but found that it didn't work well with my schedule. I've recently started updating an online shop, but much of my content is geared toward educating photographers and not so much on selling my work. I'm looking at Lyric as a new way to get my work out there to a buying audience who may not be aware of my work yet.
